Superintendent’s Office

August 6, 2019

Hello Faculty and Staff,

Tuba City Unified School District has officially opened its doors for the 2019-2020 school year.  The cafeterias were bustling with conversations, students were saying “hi” to old friends, teachers and making new friends.  Teachers were inviting students into their classrooms to start the new year.  How exciting.

I am extremely happy to be a new member to the Tuba City Unified School District and I am proud to represent you all as your superintendent!  I hope you have had the opportunity to spend quality time with your family and friends.  I also hope that you have had some wonderful adventures over the summer.  Now is the time for us to come together as a TCUSD family to serve the students, families and community members that we represent within this school district.

The 2019-2020 school year will be a year where I will focus on getting to know you.  I want to create a positive, trusting, and respectful relationship with each of you.  Part of this goal will include me visiting the school sites, observing your work, and listening to your concerns.  As the superintendent, I am here to ensure that all students have access to a high quality enriching education.  In order to accomplish this, I offer my support, experience and expertise to the principals, teachers, and support staff.

I am excited to experience the vibrant Native American culture that TCUSD has to offer.  I look forward to the opportunity to continue to build upon this robust culture and to slowly integrating project based, culturally relevant, learning experiences that allow teachers and students to penetrate the community to identify and solve local issues with the integration of the state standards.

Welcome back!  I hope we have a wonderful year getting to know one another.  I also look forward to continuing to build upon the Tuba City Unified School District Continuous Improvement Plan in order to improve the academic and social experience that we provide for our students, families and community.

Thank you,

Dr. Risha VanderWey
